{ Zastrow im Plural : Zastrowen }

Die Zastrowen sind eines der ältesten Geschlechter Pommerns. Eine erste urkundliche Erwähnung
unseres Namens erscheint im Jahre 1270 mit Conrad von Sastrow. Damit begann die Ahnenreihe
unseres Clans. Schnell erwarben die Zastrowen Grundbesitz in Pommern, Thüringen, Schlesien und
in den Rheinprovinzen. Heute gibt es ca. 10.000 Zastrowen auf der Welt, die überwiegend in Europa
und Nordamerika eine Heimat gefunden haben.
Die Herkunft unseres Familiennamens geht auf den Ortsnamen Zastrow zurück.
"Klein Zastrow" war die ältere Ortsgründung. Später kam dann "Groß Zastrow" hinzu.

Im Wort Zastrow steckt der Wortstamm za starov.
Es ist eine Zusammensetzung aus der Präposition Za, mit der Bedeutung hinter, nach
und einem vorauszusetzenden älteren Ortsnamen Starov.
Und Starov bedeutet alter Ort. (Star = alt)
Za Starov war also der Ort, der hinter dem Ort Starov lag.

The Zastrowen are one of the oldest lineage in Pomerania. The oldest documented reference to our
name appears in the year 1270 with Conrad von Sastrow. This is where the genealogical tree
of our clan begins. The Zastrowen quickly acquired property in Pomerania, Thuringia, Silesia and
in the Rhine provinces. There are approximately 10,000 Zastrowen in the world today,
predominantly located in Europe and North America. The origin of our family name goes back
to a place named Zastrow. The place "Klein Zastrow" (little Zastrow) was founded first.
After it "Groß Zastrow" (large Zastrow) was added.

It stems from the words za starov.
It is a compound of the preposition Za, meaning behind, after
and the proper noun of an established place called Starov.
Starov means older place. (Star = old)
Za Starov was the place situated behind the place Starov.
